What If You Were Born Then? (몇 년생)
A Korean-language browser life simulation: draw a birth year from the Joseon dynasty to the 2000s and live one ordinary life in that era. An independent project by Ethan Cho.
The starting question
Can history be met not as a timeline of events but through the choices of one person who lived through them?
Approach
Time passes on its own and pauses only at major crossroads such as wars, famines and marriage proposals. The game draws on about seventy real historical events and era-specific livelihoods and daily life. On reaching 2026, players may continue into a fictional future that splits into five scenarios depending on how AI unfolds. Anyone who receives a shared link starts from the same birth and luck, with only the choices differing.
Artifact and current status
The public experience is hosted on Vercel; the source code is in a private repository. The public screens and a full playthrough were checked on October 8, 2026.
Limits and what is not verified
Historical events and years are based on the record, but every person and personal story is fictional. Birth odds and lifespans are game rules, not demographic data. Everything after 2026 is invented, not a prediction, and some tragic histories are deliberately not turned into choice-based events. Educational effect and behavior on every device were not verified.
